Choosing a car seat
Not all car seats fit all vehicles. For this reason it is essential that when choosing a car seat it is deemed compatible for use in the vehicle(s) that will be used to transport the child.
When purchasing a car seat check to see if the shop has a trained fitter. Take your vehicle with you and ask the trained fitter to fit the seat in it. If it is compatible, make sure that you know how to fit the seat yourself.
Instead of purchasing a new car seat, you may wish to opt for the potentially cheaper option of using second hand car seat. If so, there are a number of issues you should consider:
- Has the seat been in a car that has been in a crash? It might look all right but there could be hidden damage.
- Do you know how to fit it according to the instructions?
- Does the seat meet the latest safety standards?
- If you have any doubts about the above it may be better to invest in a new car seat.
